History

The history of the area is heavily influenced by the “49ers” that surged into the region during the great California Gold Rush. In the mid and late 1800s, ranchers also found the high-elevation valley to offer excellent prospects for raising cattle, horses, and sheep.

A two-acre fishing pond is the latest addition to Mitch Park. It is designated as a “fishing only” body of water, which is popular with local anglers. The pond is thoroughly stocked with rainbow trout, largemouth bass, panfish, and channel catfish.
